Alternative Portfolio Review
A forum to debate and share ideas about photography projects.
Traditional photography portfolio reviews are based on a set of hierarchies, as photographers seek critical feedback, career advice and a foot on the ladder from curators, editors, writers and established artists. .
The format of this event is simple. Participants will be placed in small groups made up of a mix of photographers, artists, writers, curators, editors and other photography professionals. Over the course of the day, each member of the group will present a current project for five minutes. They will then have twenty-five minutes to receive feedback and questions from the other participants.
Through this process, everyone will be provided with insights into the work and ideas of everyone else; have an opportunity to both ask and to answer questions; and receive and offer advice.
We are open to different types of project: a photographic project (from personal to commercial); a publication; exhibition; lecture; seminar; website; participation project and beyond. We only ask that the project is in development and would benefit from the feedback and advice of others.
Participation is free: the event relies entirely on the enthusiasm and curiosity of all involved.
To join The Crit, please submit a 50 word outline of the project you would like to discuss, along with up to 5 images where relevant, and a one paragraph biography to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Participants will be selected by BPB based on the suitability of the proposals.
